On the ontological status of nouns

Abstract : I propose that nouns are ontologically neutral, and discuss an alternative to some views about what the language-learner brings to the task of lexical acquisition, such as the views that there is a lexical "bias" in favor of nouns, or an ontological bias in favor of concrete objects. I briefly discuss various relevant issues, including the issue of language-dependent conceptualization.
